Not enough counter space
One of the biggest issues we hear about is a lack of countertop space. Countertops are not only decorative, but a highly functional part of your kitchen. When doing a kitchen remodel, make sure you've planned for enough counter space by evaluating how you use the space and planning for your needs in the future.Pay attention to traffic flow, especially when there will be more than one person in the kitchen. Consider multiple work areas for ease.
Plan space for any appliances you'll store on the counter including things like coffee makers, food processors and electric can openers.
Ignoring the golden triangle
You've heard by now of the magic design that the golden triangle holds. Position your sink, stove and fridge properly and you'll have easy access to all of them, with a small number of steps and good kitchen flow.Try to avoid placing anything in the golden triangle and you'll have easy access while cooking.
Not enough room for storage
Kitchens are chock full of stuff. Not only do you need storage for things like dishes, glasses and cookware, you'll need to include space hogs like food processors and other oddly shaped items.Make a list of all the small appliances and other kitchen groups you'll need to store, and make sure to account for them in your kitchen storage plans.
The wrong distance to your island
A kitchen island can be a great addition to the kitchen, unless it's in the wrong spot. For good flow, leave between 42" and 48" of open space around islands. Don't try and force an island in a smaller kitchen, usually larger than 13 feet wide. The island itself should be a minimum of 3' x 5'.Not enough lighting
Kitchens needs plenty of lighting. Don't skimp on this important detail. Be sure to include task lighting, overall lighting as well as accent lighting. Areas like the sink and stove should all have dedicated lighting. Not enough air
Invest in a decent hood range with a good ventilation system. You'll vent odors and airborne grease particles. You'll also help to cool your home in the summer by venting all that hot air while you're cooking. Not planning for trash
You've got everything in a place in that new kitchen. Are you going to put that old trash can in the middle of it? Of course not. Incorporate not only a trash can, but a complete recycling center. Separate your trash and help save the world, all while making your kitchen nicer to look at.Subscribe to Cabinet Wholesalers's Blog
